With the glorious weather here at Whitby, we have been non stop at Whitby Fishing Trips, with various trips from 3hr Taster Trips to full day Wreck Fishing Trips.
The Mackerel have now arrived in their droves, and just at the Bell Buoy we have been taking large numbers of them!
We have also lost count if the amount of Cod we have caught, as they just keep pouring over the rails!
There have been so many Cod caught, that Whitby Fishing Trips have now set a minimum size limit of 40cm to keep, rather than the 35cm that we are allowed to take, as well as encouraging our Anglers to take home only what they need and release the rest. We hope that our customers understand this, as we are trying to help preserve our fish stocks in the North Sea for future generations.
We have also seen a good stamp of Cod up to the 6lb mark and we have had a Ling which weighed in at 8lb 5oz.
The inshore fishing, on the drift over the grounds, and Wrecks further offshore are all producing a good stamp of fish, with high numbers coming over the rails.
We also lost a cracking fish with one of our Anglers getting the fish half way up to the boat, but with the fish fighting hard and stripping line, eventually something had to give and his rod suddenly snapped with the fish lost!
Last time I saw a fish fight like that, it was a halibut on the end but we can only speculate about ‘the one that got away’!
We are still taking bookings, but spaces during the summer season are going quick with very limited spaces over the weekends
We are also taking advance bookings for our Uptiding Trips, which will soon be upon us.
We will be hard at it again over the coming few days and weekend ahead with a almost full diary for the coming week and a glorious forecast for this coming weekend, we hope to see the fish continue to come over the rails.
On the negative side, the tides are against us with big Spring Tides up to a whopping 5.8m over the coming few days, which can often play havoc with the fishing.
Please keep a look out for our regular updates or Get In Touch and join us on one of our superb trips.
Tight lines for now!!
