Hi all,
Another busy summer period is almost at an end and it’s been a hectic time for us with us running flat out on all ranges of trips from 2hr and 3hr Taster Trips to 10hr Wreck and Reef trips. The weather this August has been the worst I can remember for a few years now with us loosing several days at sea compared to the previous season.
The Mackerel finally made an appearance in abundance and this year we have had some right chunky Mackerel in the 2lb bracket almost mini Tuna like and lots of them!
This August has also seen some of the biggest high tides of the year and with the breezy south westerlies on top of this we decided to bring out the anchor and fished the Uptide Grounds in around 10 to 16 metres of water and our anglers weren’t disappointed with Ling into double figures, several Pollock and some lovely Codlings, Wrasse and Coleys coming over the rails.
When we have been able to get out to the wrecks they haven’t really been very productive, and it’s been a bit of a disappointing season on the wrecks to be fair so far this season, but the Uptiding has been fantastic considering the time of year.
Who says you can’t Uptide in the summer? 🙂
Best bait been Squid and Black Lug. We have also seen several Minke whales and Bottle Nose Dolphins and had them right at the side of the boat chasing Herring shoals which is always great to see.
Winter Uptiding is almost upon us and we’re taking bookings for that at the moment, as well as the WCSA Autumn Festival getting underway, this weekend with £1000 up for grabs for heaviest fish.
The boat is currently out of the water for a few days for yearly maintenance, anti-foul and exterior paint job and will be back in the water for this coming weekend.
We will bring you another update as soon as we can.
Tight lines for now!!
